• Hi
I’d like to work on a WordPress site in a folder ‘wp’ under the root. Then when I’ve finished setting everything up, I’d like to delete the old website and move the new WordPress contents of the folder out of ‘wp’ folder to the domain root. Will this cause any problems?

    Thanks
    Mark

  • Not if you follow the directions in Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory.

    Thanks.
Those instructions appear to be for people who want to keep the WordPress files in a subfolder but have the blog exist in the root. I don’t mind moving everything out into the root. Is that going to cause problems?

    Thanks

Once WordPress is in a sub-folder, the method I gave above is far easier than moving the entire site – and just as effective. If you really want to start moving WordPress around, see Moving_WordPress.

So it’s easier to just leave WordPress in its own directory, and follow the instructions ‘Using a pre-existing subdirectory install’? That’s what I’ll do then.

    Thanks for the help

Much easier. The “move” should only take a few minutes.
