Hi – I’m in the process of moving a WP site from one host to another. I have backed up all my files and exported the database from the old server via phpMyAdmin. I then used the one click install within the control panel of the new host to install WP which creates a new database for me. I then successfully imported the database into phpMyAdmin on the new server before follwing the installation steps to login to WP. I have also moved the wp-content folder over to the new server. I then get a white screen at the root of the domain and if I login to /wp-admin, I get forwarded to the old site admin interface.

Can anyone tell me why this is?

    Thanks

  • Stefan,

Before you imported your data in phpMyAdmin, did you do a search and replace using TextEdit or Notepad? It sounds like you did everything almost right, purge your new database and import a version of the data but first:

    1) Open TextEdit
    2) Paste your SQL
    3) Search for “oldsite.com”, replace with “newsite.com”
    4) Copy SQL
    5) Paste into phpMyAdmin

That should clear it up for you.
