Moving site to subdirectory

  • Hello, I followed the instructions here exactly

    My site is loading and “redirecting” to my new directory folder, but some images that came from my theme are broken. Also I completely lost access to wp-admin. I go to mysite/newfolder/wp-admin and get “page isn’t working” browser error.
    I followed all the way thru Step 9 EXACTLY and have double checked to confirm. What do I do??

    If you know how to access phpMyAdmin on your host, then check the wp_options Table (Note: The table prefix of wp_ may be different if you changed it when installing), and make sure siteurl field and home field are correct.     but some images that came from my theme are broken.

    Do these broken images display the old URL?

    If so, try this plugin: Better Search And Replace.

    Siteurl and home were correct in database. For now I changed everything back because I didn’t like being locked out of wp-admin and my site looking broken ??

    Maybe I am going about this in the wrong way anyway??
    What I want to do is create two sites with same domain. I would want mainsite.com to be some kind of landing page where they could choose which site to go into. And then 2 sites: mainsite/site1 and mainsite/site2

    The second site isn’t ready yet but I was going to move the 1st site to its subdirectory in preparation and have a redirect from mainsite.com to it.

    I have been researching multisite and it sounds interesting to have one login and superuser page to update wp and plugins, but I may actually want to just control them separately so I thought just having 2 subdirectories and wordpress installs would also work. I do not anticipate ever adding 3rd or more sites unless perhaps for dev purposes only. Also multisite says it does not allow subdirectories on existing sites over a month old, which mine is. I did find a workaround for allowing subdirectories but I just want to do this in the simplest method with fewest steps for possibilities to screw it up!

    Advice?
