Moving to new server

  • OK, so i have followed the moving_to_new_server instructions at the codex. I have been trying this for a number of days now. It seems to have something to do with themes and plugins. Some plugins will activate but the majority will not, it causes a blank page. So, i have made backups of all my databases and i think i am going to “drop” the DB and start all over. Any words of encouragement or things i should look at before i do this?

  • Just verify the versions of php and mysql, then do a fresh install of WP (exactly the same version like on the old server), get it up and running, set your preferences, etc. Then upload the db backups for everything but wp_options, then install your theme and your plugins one by one.

    I’ve moved WP a few times and wp_options table seems to cause the most errors (if you use phpMyAdmin for db backups). The xml backup file from WP 2.1 works better.
