Widgets have been driving me nuts. This is what I’ve learned. I’m using 2.8.2.
Access your dashboard and then click on Widgets in the lower left column.
Two columns will appear on your page. If the Widgets have “add” to the right of the box you should be able to move the Widgets. Just click on the “add” and it will move to the right column where you can work with the Widget.
If no “add” click on screen options top right and click on enable accessibility so that it reads disable accessibility mode and the word “add” will appear in the tabs. Click on the “add” and the widget will move to the right column.
Some of the Widgets give you the option for customization by clicking on edit. At the least you want to choose the order you want the Widget to appear on your page in the select box. Play around with the select, preview, and the back button on your broswer until you get the order you want.
The coolest things I found out was that you can use the text box to create any Widget you might want. That’s where you put the html for sign in forms – in that text box – to create the forms.
Take a look at my sight – https://fantasycasino.us – the top three widgets on the right sidebar were custom. First, the sign in box created through aWeber.com and then pasted into place from Notepad, then the next two created with information and affiliate links. So cool when you get this stuff figured out.
Just noticed that if you click on screen options when you’re still on the dashboard page there is a group of options with check marks in them. I’m thinking now that might be where I can adjust some of the pages showing up on my site that I really don’t want there – so that’s the next project.
Good Luck,
Louise
