Moving wordpress – can I install to a folder but run from root?
-
Hi,
I have a photography portfolio running basic HTML and Slideshowpro (at owenbillcliffe.co.uk) and I want to switch to a GraphPaperPress theme and incorporate Photoshelter, on the exact same URL. However, I want to minimise disruption to my existing site.
I’ve read in the Codex how I can move the WordPress files to a different folder but run from the root to keep things tidy. I was wondering if this works the other way – rather than installing to the root and then moving the files to a specific sub-folder and making changes to the settings to reflect this, could I install to a specific sub-folder in the first place, get it running, make the design tweaks I want, and then move/copy (as appropriate) the required files to the root once I’m ready to go live so that the site runs from the root, drawing on the wordpress files in the sub-folder?
This would allow me to test the site in its folder, hidden from the public who continue to use the existing site, then make the switch when I’m ready.
If this is not possible is there another, simple way to achieve this?
Thanks,
Owen
