• I want to develop WordPress sites in an ‘offline’ development folder location on my server and then move them to their proper location once approved.
NB: I have been told the process is a very complicated one (apparently, unlike Joomla!) IS this correct?
I have found a few articles on the Forum which would back up this suggestion, like this one. https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress
Can anyone advise me of the ‘best practice’ for what I want to do, please?
For example, is it better to install WordPress on my local drive (I assume you can then give the site it’s proper URL and permalinks, rather than a dev’ IP address being part of the URL?) I guess I would simply FTP the files to the server when approved?
    Thank you.

Best practice is to follow the guide you already linked to. ?? It’s been around since 2005 and is constantly updated for better practices.

It’s not too complicated at all, just a few very detailed steps.

Thanks James, at least I know I’ll be following the right sort of guidance.

Have you ever used WP installed on your local computer? (as opposed to installed on server)? It strikes me that if this operates anything like the way RapidWeaver does, it would be perfect!

I have had WP running under localhost once before, but considering that server environments can vary greatly, I prefer to just do development work in a subdomain on the very same server that the live site will be.
