I recently installed wordpress on a subdomain from my root domain to set up a forum. I′m not using wordpress on my root domain currently, However, now I want to use wordpress for my entire site and not just the forum subdomain. Therefore I was wondering if there is an easy way I can use this same wordpress installation that is already installed for my forum on my subdomain, and just move it or redirect it and all its current content to my root domain?
I read about changing the site URL and wordpress url in the general settings panel, is this all I have to do? Also, how will this affect the content that is already added to my subdomain? Will I need to restructure menu′s and page urls etc?

P.S. I′m not an advanced user, so please dumb it down a litte…

    Thankful for any useful answers
    Martin

No. You need to review Moving_WordPress.

Thanks! So if i understood that correctly, since my username and database remains the same all i need to do is just contact my domain name host and have them copy/move the current database and wordpress installation from my subdomain to my root domain?

No. You need to follow the instructions in “When Your Domain Name or URLs Change”.

Ok, thanks! I think i got it. I need to change url settings, then move the core wp files to the new location and then finally restructure permalinks etc.. in the correct order to avoid problems.

    Thanks for helpful answers!
