With all of the talk about creating a static front page and so forth, I wish to inquire about doing something else. I’d like to see if I can move my entire WordPress theme site to another folder (subfolder) on the same domain, change permalinks, residual links etc., and on the main root create a dynamic flash intro thus leading into the main wordpress site.

Reason for this is I wish not to change the htaccess as it has some problems on my server. The URL is https://www.paulsiebert.net. On this site if I move the entire site into another folder (directory) inside the root on the same server, then I’d have free reign to open the domain with a simple index.html, thus providing a link into the main WordPress CMS. Does this make sense? Lots of people shy away at doing this, but I thought that since my client wanted it, it would be a clean move, have a custom front-end page without the rules of the CMS, and so forth. Unless there’s a better move, I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

  • yes you can, for example move your wordpress to yourdomain.com/blog where blog is the directory then follow the steps in this post to get your blog back up and running @ https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL and i’d recommend editing function.php instead of wp-config.php.

    Goodluck,
