• Hello

I am fairly new the world of website design and development, but have been learning heaps of information from this forum and Google alike.

I have managed to install a WordPress template on a free hosting platform and created myself a website by changing styles, altering padding and margins, installing new plugins and purchasing professional stock photography.

I have the website exactly as I need it to be now and it is currently hosting on a temporary domain.

I now need to move the website onto my new domain name and here is were I am having most of my problems.

The website is live on the current hosting platform so it is a case of moving the website onto the new domain name. I have changed the nameservers for my new domain and a file has been created for my new domain in my file manager.

I have started to read https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress as advised by my hosting provider, but I am confused already. I presume I need to be looking at the steps provided titled under ‘Changing Your Domain Name and URLs’ and presume, because of my lack of development knowledge, that I start with point 3. The search and replace tool asks me for my mysql file and now things are starting to go way above my knowledge.

I accept that something like this is complicated and takes time to learn but I am frustrated because this is the final piece of the puzzle that will set my first ever website live.

All your help and guidance is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mike

  • you need phpmyadmin.
you need to export your database, and import it in the database of the new site.
Then with phpmyadmin you need to find and replace the old domain with the new one.

Hmm don’t think I have done a great job in explaining that… still hope it helps…
