Ok I have never dealt with this before…

I am moving a 4 year old install of WordPress to a new server, for a new client who is rebranding. This client speaks spanish and her name has an accent in it and she put her name and a copyright symbol in 50% of the file names of the images she uploaded (1.2 GB in the uploads folder!)

So she uploaded something like Santé-?-artwork.jpg and WordPress happily accepted it even though on the server the file looks like this: Sant??-??-artwork.jpg. So I downloaded her site contents and uploaded it to the new server (did I mention there are 1.2 GB of images?? Jeez louise…), moved the database over, did a thorough SQL scrubbing to fix all the weird characters there, and even though the same image appears as Sant??-??-artwork.jpg on the old server and the new server, and even though I look at the media file details and both old and new server and they both say:

File URL: https://website2.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Santé-?-artwork-1.jpg (actually one says website1.com and one says website2.com)
    File name: Santé-?-artwork-1.jpg

The image appears in the post in the old site but not in the new site. And this problem is in hundreds of posts. I don’t know what to do!

There are 1000s of images so reuploading them and reattaching them to their posts is not an option.

    Anybody have experience with this?

  • This may be a server issue.
Not sure this may be a charset problem

Contact your host provider regarding this and ask for a support

    Thanks,
