• Here’s the situation: My current host and I do not get along at all. So I’m moving to a brand new A Small Orange, a company that’s provided me with nothing but good service.

Here’s the catch: The offer an automatic installation of WP 2.0, where I’m still using WP 1.5.1.

What are my options here. I an in the process of downtown all my php/html files from my current root WP directory. My current full blog address is https://peoriapundit.com/blogpeoria.

I was kinda hoping to install in the main directory, so the blog address would be just https://peoriapundit.com.

But I am not married to the idea.

Could I just not use Fantastico to install WP 2.0, move over a few specific files, themes and plugins, and the install a backed up database?

  • Exactly! You don’t have to use the automatic install offered by the host. That’s for those that are afraid to go by themselves ?? – just joking.

In your case I’d definitely go by the manual install of 1.5.1 – otherwise the DB tables might not be compatible. After the move if everything is OK, you mighht consider to upgrade to at least 1.5.2 (for security reasons).
