I have hosted my WP blog with Go Daddy for about a year, using a Thesis theme. About a week ago I needed to update the permissions on my custom folder and my layout.css file inside Thesis. It wasn’t working so Go Daddy said I needed to move my blog from a Windows server to a Linux server. They did that and now everything on my site is broken with the exception of the front page. Go Daddy support told me just to reinstall WordPress and start all over, but I want to make sure there is no other fix. To complicate things, I am going to be moving this blog to a different domain anyway, but would like to keep the posts, plug ins, and layout. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your ideas.

    Hi

    1) Try resetting your permalinks to Default and see what happens
Settings / Permalinks in the Admin vertical menu

    2) If you are shortly changing the site to a new domain I highly recommend not putting in a lot of effort to get it working on the current domain, because you will be going through a similar process of converting it (in the database) to recognize the new domain and remove all references to the old domain. You won’t want to go through that twice. If resetting permalinks does the trick, great. If not, you are better off changing domains sooner not later.

You certainly can keep posts, plugins, and layout between domains. But there are conversion steps.

Great, thanks for the info. I’ll give it a shot.
