    hello,

as my username portray, i am a complete noob in WP and just starting and dont really understand WP so will appreciate your help.

    my hosting company is webhostinghub
    my barebones website is https://travelmolecule.com/
now it completely appear out of sync and alignment because i think i must have messed something up.

what i did was trying to change the blogpost format for WP from .com to .com/blog. my ultimate goal is that i want my .com website to show a series of menu on top, including ‘About Me’, ‘Travel Habits’, ‘Blog’, and i want to write blogs and have blog posts only appear under the ‘Blog’ menu button (.com/blog address), and not .com address.

    Questions
    1) Am i correct that root means .com while subdirectory means .com/blog? in WP terminology, i mean

    2) I believe I need to follow the below instructions? I only understand up till step 5, and notice my website is now messed up. I have no idea how to proceed from now to get the end results i want/hope

Someone, please kindly help? many thanks in advance

  • You need to move the files from your root directory to the /blog directory.

You can do this via FTP or through the cPanel File Manager (if your host provides this).

i do have cPanel File Manager provided by web host

when you say root directory, do you mean root directory = .com directory?

Yeah, it will usually be public_html in a cPanel install. You need to move the WordPress files and folders from there into the blog folder.

i found the “public_html” folder in the cPanel
however, i dont find any “/blog” directory or folder.
where is that or do i need to create one?!

You need to move the WordPress files and folders from there into the blog folder.
do you mean all of the wordpress files and folders? anything that start with WP? or only the index.php file?

ok. sorry, i think i did figure out that some WP core files should be moved, while index.php and .htaccess should be copied (not MOVED)

but my first question still remain. i cannot find the folder where i should be moving or copying files too

Yeah you need to create it. What you’ve done so far is tell WordPress where to find all it’s files so it’s looking in your root/blog directory which doesn’t exist.

So if you create the blog directory and move the files into it WordPress will find them.

ok. thanks. i think i am half-right now but not entirely

can you please see what’s wrong?
    https://www.travelmolecule.com

i am getting the below error messages

Warning: require(/home/trave195/public_html/blog/wp-blog-header.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/trave195/public_html/index.php on line 17

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/trave195/public_html/blog/wp-blog-header.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/trave195/public_html/index.php on line 17

Have you copied wp-blog-header.php from the root directory to the blog directory?

    Thread Starter wpnoob2014

    (@wpnoob2014)

yes. i think so, it says it is under “public_html/travelmolecule.com/blog”?

i dont know how to show you a screenshot of what’s happening on my cPanel now. is there a way i can show you?

    the below probably doesnt work….

    https://secure40.webhostinghub.com:2083/cpsess5734287536/frontend/x3/filemanager/index.html?dirselect=webroot&domainselect=travelmolecule.com&dir=%2Fhome%2Ftrave195%2Fpublic_html&showhidden=1

so far i think i moved the below to the travelmolecule.com/blog folder

    – css
    – wp-content
    – wp-includes

and copied the below to the travelmolecule.com/blog folder

    – index.php
    – .htaccess

and edited the index.php file in travelmolecule.com/blog to become ‘/blog/wp-blog-header.php’

but to note, i think i still have the following files remaining in public_html folder
    – index.php
    – .htaccess
    – etc files like cgi-bin

    (@wpnoob2014)

ok. sigh. with some tweaks and trial and error, now i can get it to be ‘live’ again

but i cannot log into my wp-admin website anymore!

neither of the below works to allow me to re-enter WP dashboard
    travelmolecule.com/wp-admin
    travelmolecule.com/blog/wp-admin

    what did i do wrong?

    (@wpnoob2014)

i think problem is solved now! (i re-configure the whole thing ?? )
