• Hi,

I have read this: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress but before I do anything, I just want to confirm:

I want to replace my existing WP site (louisvorster.co.za) with a localhost – MAMP -website I have on my laptop(Localhost:8888). I dont care about any of the files or content of my existing site, everything will be replaced by the new site.

    Can I:
1.) edit my localhost wp-config.php to match the file on the web server I want to replace.
2.) Remove all the files from the httpdocs folder on my hosts web server via FTP
3.) Transfer all the localhost files from my computer to the httpdocs folder on my web server.
4.) Go to Administration/settings and change the URL?

Is this the way to do it?
    Thanks

  • You can do #1-3. Is your current site running on the same version as your localhost site? If same version you can skip #2 and just transfer your needed themes/plugins/uploads. You forgot something, though. You need to upload your database, too. Make sure you change the site and home url in your DB first otherwise you won’t even be able to go to your admin panel to change anything.
