• I’m seriously debating moving my wordpress installation to the root of my site. The only thing that I a worried about is this – Will wordpress’s index.php override index.html that is currently in the root? If so, are there any kind of work arounds?

  • It will not override them but depending upon the setup, index.php may load rather than index.html when viewing your domain.

Why do you want to move your index?

I want to have my wp installation at the root, as I’ve heard that its better for seo to have it up front, rather than in a subfolder. I’ve also heard that its easier for google to index.

Any people have a work around or suggestions on this?

You could use a different file name than index.php and have that single file in the main directory. There are also plugins to increase SEO although I’m not sure what the specific affect will be in relation to this issue.

If you want index in wordpress to be home, dump it in. Rename whatever your site name is to home, tome or old croon. (First) Then link to it from WP. You can only have one front page. When your asked, keep all links to your original index.htm/html
