• I uploaded an mp4 video to my media library but when I open it and play within the media library, it is just a dark grey square with sound but no video. I uploaded the same video to my Drive account and it plays fine there: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1J1w0weqK7HIufk1qkl6g6IFwBCubXqhs
I tried uploading the video to my media library three times, but always with the same result.
    Thanks in advance.

If the video file uploaded to your Google Drive is exactly the same as the one uploaded to your site, then the problem may be server configuration, since the video file accessed directly in the browser also has the same problem: https://www.alexenglish.cz/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Ramsgate-market.mp4

I recommend contacting your hosting provider’s support about that.

Alternatively, Google Drive may be doing something to transcode the video to make it more friendly to multiple browsers, like Youtube does.

Make sure that the uploaded video is exported in a format supported by most browsers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5_video#Browser_support

Thanks James, I just tried it in my Samsung default browser and it plays ok?
I use Chrome normally. So would a universal player be better? I don’t really want to use YouTube.

It looks like it’s a problem with Chrome, as I can play the video in my wp-admin area and on my website, when using IE. I must say I’m a bit surprised. I will try other video formats to see if anything plays universally.

I uploaded to YouTube for the time being just so I can continyue work. I will convert to different format and see if that helps.
