• We currently use WP to run our intranet, but with WAMP. We are removing the server where WP is installed and plan on using Microsoft’s Web Platform Installer. I am use to using phpMyAdmin, but with the Web Installer, it installs MySQL automatically (5.1 when 5.6 is already out there).

Question is for those that install WP on a server… do you prefer MS SQL or MySQL? and how easy are those two to manage (importing my phpMyAdmin database and such)?

  • As long as it is still a MySQL server (per “it installs MySQL automatically” ) you can use phpMyAdmin. It is just an interface that connects to an instance of MySQL.

That’s what originally thought, but had major issues trying to setup myphpadmin to connect with the MySQL database. I eventually gave up and installed MySQL WorkBench. I have used this in the past, but this updated software is actually very fast and fluid.
