• Tried a few searches here, sorry if I missed a thread that covered this.
I’d like to switch to WP from MT, but my MT blog is in my document root, as will the WP version. The text for the Import MT script seems to want a /wp/ directory, which is not what I’m after. Is there anything special I need to do to accomplish the import, and since I’m going to the document root, will I need to delete all the MT files first before installing WP? (Just the files, not the MySQL tables)

  • I did this process (just this weekend on a fairly large MT blog):
    1. Install WP to /wp/ directory
    2. Run conversion script (ran very well… no idea what happened to my trackbacks though… still working on that)
    3. Put site in “upgrade” mode through CPanel
    4. Move all MT files to /old/
    5. Set WP’s “current directory” to the /public_html/ directory (you’ll get an error at the end, ignore it)
    6. Moved the files
And it worked really well. The hardest part was all the .htaccess stuff so my posts still work. That took ages. The actual MT -> WP conversion was very, very easy.
Take a look for yourself ?? https://www.ensight.org WordPress and proud!
