MT import in 1.5

    I am trying to import into WordPress about 700 posts (including comments) that I exported from MovableType about a year ago. I once tried this with 1.20 and it worked just fine; now, however, WordPress 1.5 imports only the post at the very top of the import.txt and its comments and then stops. I could, of course, simply import, delete the first entry, import again, delete the second entry and so on and so forth, but that seems rather cumbersome. Any ideas?

    Experimenting with this some more, could it be that the MT export format changed since the last time I tried this and the WordPress import script was changed accordingly? If so, is there any way to still import the old format?

    No I recently (two nights ago) imported a MT 3.1something blog to WordPress 1.5 and it worked perfectly. The MT export format is not very robust, it can be confused pretty easily. Look at around where it’s failing for anything funky.

    As I said, I have tried this once before in 1.20 and it worked just fine. I did some more digging and found out that what happens is actually not that WordPress only imports the first entry and its comments. It imports the first entry and adds all other contents of the import file as a comment or multiple comments to the first entry.

    I found an old copy of WP 1.21 on my hard drive and indeed, as I remember, it imports all entries correctly.

    I had a similar problem. 1.5 seems to be much more strict about the format of the MT export than 1.2. My solution was to install 1.2 and import the posts into that before upgrading to 1.5.

    It is likely that RoyalTS and help-me-please ran into different problems, with the same apparent solution ??

    RoyalTS, there is an extra Blank Line between ——– and AUTHOR in the entries in your text file, remove those spaces, and you’ll be fine.

    Another option is to mail me at mail@carthik dot net and I will send you a patched import-mt.php that you can use, RoyalTS.
