Mu dashboard is down HELP!!!

Do you have a backup of your website before you did this that you can restore?

The problem is that i have had a ton of malware on the site! the server/hosts support team told me i needed to provide a backup that hasn’t been compromised!

I have never restored a back up so how would i know?

they have subsequently got back to me and asked me if i want them to back up a version from overbear 19 – i’ll lose several posts but what choice do i have?

i cannot access my drafts to even copy them before an update is sone.

he also said – do i want the site files or the database or both restored!

i do not know how to answer that question as i have no idea what these terms mean.

Because chances are that if you were hacked the malware messed up both the database, and the site files (public_html). Most hackers/malware usually happen in the database tables. So you could just restore one although to be safe both should be restored.

Thanks. I have just instructed the hosts/server team to do what you have advised me. i am just waiting now. the most frustrating thing is that they told me to delete an old themes file in the updraft folder and this is what caused the problem!! so frustrating.

the situation has gone terribly wrong.
The wrong backup has been used and now my site is not visible!

what can i do other than asking them to change the backup date to November 29

You may just have to start over. As much as you don’t want to here that, that is where it looks like it is going.

what is the issue with website right now?
backups are taken on weekly basis so best bet for you will be to restore to a older backup which isnt infected. it is better than starting afresh.

if you suspect malware then better zip all files in public_html folder, download them to your system and then scan with a malware scanner like avg or something.
