Multi block select and copy is now erratically disfunctional

I just found another new 5.7 bug, involving a simple function that I use routinely and for which is critical for me, and would be great to find a workaround for this.
Normally I use the simple combo of ‘shift + select” to highlight multiple blocks, copy or cut them, and then move them to either another part of the page or another page. Sometimes I copy it to a wordpad file for future use.
Now, this simple multi block selection function is randomly disfunctional. I have now tried about 30 times, to select multi block combos and only about 1/3rd of the time does it make the selection. The rest of the time either nothing happens, or just one of the end blocks is highlighted.
So, I’m really in a bind on this, because I often do very large multi block selections, many pages worth. The problem here is, that when the selection fails, I have to scroll the entire length of the intended selection to try it again.
Bottom line, unless I can find a workaround for this bug, I will have to go into code view and copy from there, which I have done before for other reasons, and it’s a pain in the rear.
If anyone has seen this issue and has a workaround for this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Update: Ok, after more playing around I have made a bit of progress. I do not fully understand what is going on, but, I was able to make a good multi block copy this time.
There seem to be two issues related to this:
1) For an unknown reason, a multi block section started highlighting together when a single block was selected. Then a 2nd, such that any time I clicked inside of one set, the entire set was highlighted with a blue triangle. I have never seen this before. The same for the 2nd set.
This would seem to be related to the this “new feature/bug” of auto copying text from one block to the other. Perhaps I misclicked something somewhere and turned this feature on. This isn’t something I can see myself needing but I could imagine others might find it useful.
I haven’t figured out how to undo this easily, although simply deleting all the blocks worked.
2) In one copy and past operation, I was up against a set of columns, although for some reason this was not apparent like it usually is, and it was trying to copy part, but not all, of a column set. Normally this is easy to avoid, I never have this issue & I do tons of column copying. But with the changes to the column / embed system, I inadvertently tried to copy part of a column set and it wouldn’t allow this, thus the copy function failed.
Once I realized this and kept the end of the copy section outside of the columns, it succeeded. FTR, I am still able to copy columns. The problem here was that it was trying to copy on part of a column set, i.e., one column out of three, and there was no indicator that I was inside the column set.
FTR, for anyone else running into this, keep an eye out for the short division bars vs. the long ones. If you’re using 2 or more columns, this will help you know when you’re outside the column set. If you’re only using one column, then you’ll need to look for a double bar, or just go up to master column control bar, highlight the whole column(set), and then look to see where the bottom of it is and start your block copy after that line.
/sigh I hope all this info helps someone else who may be as frustrated as I am. I just wanted to edit my page today, and instead I’ve spent hours troubleshooting.
