    Supposedly I can use Networks+ to do this:

    business1.mydomain.com/location1

    I would like to build a network of multisites in this format; Many businesses with many locations each. ALL from a single domain.

    Questions:

    1. Can mydomain.com have its own unique theme and look as the marketing site?
    2. Would WP multisite be installed at the domain level?
    3. Would Networks Plus be installed at the domain level?
    4. When I set up a new network (eg business1.mydomain.com), does it have to share the theme and plugins from the domain or can it be unique? Of course, all its locations would share the business theme and plugins once set up.
    5. As I set up add’l networks (eg business2.mydomain.com), they will probably share the same theme as business1, but of course, their color scheme, slider images, etc will be uniques to their business.

    Please help. Anyone. Everyone. Thanks!

    1. Yes

    2. … Maybe? I’m not sure what you’re asking here.

    3. No, just once.

    4. No.

    5. No, they’re all separate and unique as fare as WP cares.

    Thank you Mika!

    Please verify my understanding below.

    Walking through building the foundation for these networks:

    1. Currently, I have WP installed (not multisite) and I have the marketing site built and public at “mydomain.com”
    2. Convert my installation to multisite.
    3. Add my multisite plug-ins (Networks+, Domain Controller, etc)
    4. Create my first network (business or subdomain) as business1.mydomain.com
    ====
    (note: Or, will I do this instead)

    2a. Create my first network by setting up a subdomain (business) as business1.mydomain.com
    3a. Install WP multisite on this subdomain
    4a. Add my multisite plug-ins (Networks+, Domain Controller, etc)
    ====
    5. Install my theme and plug-ins (applicable to business1) and setup default customizations
    6. Create my sites (locations) for business1 (business1.mydomain.com/location1)
    7. They will (automatically?) start with the business1 theme and defaults, but can then customize for local needs
    8. Repeat 5-7 for additional businesses.

    All of this on ONE domain with one installation of WP multisite.

    Am I on track??

    In an over-complicated way.

    Initial setup is this:

    1) Activate Multisite

    2) Create a subsite – business1.mydomain.com

    3) Install Networks+

    4) Make a subsite off business1.mydomain.com for business1.mydomain.com/location1

    Now. There are specifics that get weird.

    7. They will (automatically?) start with the business1 theme and defaults, but can then customize for local needs

    No, they won’t. They start with whatever you have in your wp-config like this: define('WP_DEFAULT_THEME', 'cooltheme');

    You can wrap that in PHP ifs though, to detect by site ID, and specify a default theme per network (aka per site_id).

    Mika,

    Do you know anyone whom I can pay to set this structure up? I’ve tried, but I guess I’m just not “getting it.”

    I do think I’m close, but just not getting it.

    Thanks for any referral.
