• Hello,

I am reinstalling my personal website after a few issues.

But, upon installing and activating the multisite feature, I was told that there is an error with the DNS something or another.

It tried creating a domain: somename.www.joespace.ca

It did not work, due to a DNS issue.

Can some one direct me a little?

    Thanks

    Joseph

  • Hello @smokinjo,

you said you are “reinstalling your personal website after a few issues”. You did a new clean install?

“It tried creating a domain: somename.www.joespace.ca”? What is “it”? Do you try to install your new website on a subdomain?

    Hello,

    Thanks for the reply.

    Yes, a completely clean install.

When I say “it”, I mean the installer. It said in a message that I did not copy, and do not know how to get it back, that it tried making a test subdomain and it failed.

Due to this, it said that the subdomains will likely not work.

    And, they do not work.

I hope this clears it up a bit.

    Thanks

    Joseph

    Hello @smokinjo,

is it that you tried to install WordPress on a subdomain? And you named the subdomain “somename.www.joespace.ca” or “somename.joespace.ca”?

Therefore you made a new directory and you loaded all WordPress files into it? You targeted the subdomain at the new directory? And then you called the subdomain to install WordPress and you were “told that there is an error with the DNS something or another”? Do I understand you right?

    Regards,

After I erased all the contents of the main website folder, I installed WP in the newly emptied folder..

It was not install in a folder or some place else.

I did not try making a subdomain when this happened. This, from what I understood from the error, was a test that word press does when you activate multisite. My subdomain site I made, seemed to have failed the test. Then, when I went to look at it, it displays a generic debian message saying that apache is working.

But, there is supposed to be a web page/site.

    Thanks

    Jospeh

I am still having issues with my website.

I create a new website with an empty main folder by adding the wordpress files. The site loads fine and i can log in. FIne.

I add the multi site text. They the error happen. During the loading after the adding of the multi site text, it says that during the the reload. It seems to do a practice adding of a subdmain. But, it says it fails. The subdomain doe snot work.
word press says that future subdomains that are created will not work either.

Then, when I try making a new subdomain, the main domain works, but the subdomain doe snot work.

    Thanks for ideas.

    Hello,,
I tried reinstalling the site again, and I decided to copy the eror:

    ————————
Warning! Wildcard DNS may not be configured correctly!

The installer attempted to contact a random hostname (ec1a35.www.joespace.ca) on your domain. This resulted in an error message: cURL error 6: Could not resolve host: ec1a35.www.joespace.ca

To use a subdomain configuration, you must have a wildcard entry in your DNS. This usually means adding a * hostname record pointing at your web server in your DNS configuration tool.

You can still use your site but any subdomain you create may not be accessible. If you know your DNS is correct, ignore this message.

    ———————

Sop, there is the exact error that I coudl nto recall before.

Does this help finding the source fo the issue?

    Thanks

    Joseph
