Multiple blogs using XAMPP

  • I am trying to test multiple blogs on my PC using XAMPP. There seems to be a problem doing this as my second blog seems to contain a header and footer from my first blog. No matter how I edit the header.php or footer.php file on my second blog I cannot make the changes happen. I have two different directories — L:\xampplite\htdocs\xampp\wordpress and L:\xampplite\htdocs\xampp\acme. The acme directory is the latest blog that I can’t seem to behave. The acme blog contains the header and footer from the default twenty ten theme.

  • I run 5 blogs on my PC (for testing various WP releases) under XAMPP and all work well.

    Did you copy part of the first blog while setting up the second? Check all the settings under Admin->Settings->General. Also check for any url’s in the database, or redirects in the .htaccess file.

    I am trying to follow exactly the “Head First WordPress” book I just purchased and may have missed some detail. I think my best bet is to redo the example from the start and pay closer attention to detail in the book. Also, I don’t know where to find the .htaccess file and what to look for in it.

    What I have now in my acme blod is the twenty ten header image and also no footer.

    the .htaccess file would be in the \wordpress and \acme folders.

    Its generated by WP in the root of each WP install, if you are using permalinks. If you haven’t set up permalinks, it may not exist
