Wordfence security plugin does not allow e-mails with multiple dots in them. Our user with multiple dots in the e-mail can’t login or purchase our course. After we deactivated the plugin, multiple dots in an email works just fine.

Please advise, how to solve this issue.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi @codenpy,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Are you able to replicate the issue? Do you get any errors when you try to log in?

    Please follow the steps below:

    • Open the Browser console
    • Replicate the issue by trying to log in or purchase a course with an email with multiple dots.
    • Check Live Traffic to see if any new entries come up while trying to log in or purchase the course. Ensure it is set to the All Traffic logging mode under Wordfence >Tools > Live Traffic > Live Traffic Options.
    • Send over screenshots of any browser console errors and Live Traffic entries to [email protected] with your forum username as the subject.

Please send a diagnostic report to [email protected] with the screenshots above. You can find the link to do so at the top of Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Add your forum username where indicated and respond.

    Thanks,

    Janet

    Thank you,

I just sent a report to [email protected]. I noticed that if I put multiple dots in an email during checkout page and registration, it’s showing error “Registration Access Blocked” It seems the plugin detects multiple dots in an email as a bot (I have seen it in “Live Traffic” view Type: Bot). Hope now you can give us a solution.

    Hi @codenpy,

I can’t find your diagnostic report. Can you please resend it? Be sure to add your forum username where indicated.

Please send a screenshot of the live traffic entry you see when registering, along with the diagnostic report.

    Thanks,

    Janet

    Hi @codenpy,

    I hope you’re well today.

Thank you for sharing the screenshots. You forgot to attach the diagnostic report.

I would suggest we try switching the Firewall to Learning mode as it might help Wordfence allow the registration and checkout.

From the Wordfence Dashboard, click on Manage WAF. Then you will see  Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to Learning Mode. Now proceed to register the new user. This will help Wordfence learn that these actions are normal, and it will allow them in the future. After you have finished the user registration, switch the WAF from Learning Mode back to Enabled and Protecting, then test to see that you can register a user.

https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/learning-mode/ is an amazing resource for learning more about the WAF and learning mode.

Please get back to us in case the above doesn’t solve your issue.

    Thanks,

    Janet

    Hi,

Your solution did not work, But when I make Web Application Firewall Status to Disabled it worked. Is it ok If I keep Firewall status to disable ?

    Hi @codenpy,

When the WAF is disabled, the Wordfence Web Application Firewall is functionally turned off and does not run any of its rules or analyze the requests in any way.

Wordfence doesn’t look specifically for emails containing dots, and registrations we block are usually because the visitor’s browser failed the captcha or the captcha is not set up correctly. When Wordfence blocks a user registration due to the captcha, the user gets the message below:

REGISTRATION BLOCKED: The registration request was blocked because it was flagged as spam. Please try again or contact the site owner for help.

I suspect this could be a plugin conflict. I’ll need the diagnostic report to troubleshoot further and hopefully determine which one could be causing the issue. I found the screenshots but you forgot to attach the diagnostic report.

Please send a diagnostic report to [email protected] with the screenshots above. You can find the link to do so at the top of Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Add your forum username where indicated and respond.?

    Thanks,

    Hi @codenpy,

Unfortunately, I still can’t find your diagnostic report.

    Please try resending it.

Navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostic page and then click the “Export” button. Send the txt file to [email protected]. Add your forum username in the subject and respond here once done.

    Thanks,

    Hi @codenpy,

Thank you for sending the diagnostic report.

This seems to be a plugin conflict issue caused by the Stop Spammers Registration plugin.

Can you please disable the setting below under protection options?

    Check for Periods
An email with more than 2 periods (1 to separate a name and 1 after the TLD is often the sign of a spammer.

Once done, attempt a registration with Wordfence enabled and let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,
    Janet

    Excellent!

Your solution just worked like a charm. I deselect the “Check for Periods” from Stop Spammers plugin and it worked.

Thank you so much for the help. Really appreciate
