Multiple Featured Posts – Columns

Hello,

I have a link from the front end (home page) to a form that lets end users upload content (their posts). The content is put into categories (action, adventure, sports, etc..).

What would be the easiest way to create multiple featured posts on the home page (or a front page) for each category (action, adventure, sports, etc..)?

for example:
Action:
(then have 8 posts in a grid like layout)
Adventure:
(then have 8 posts in a grid like layout)
Sports:
(then have 8 posts in a grid like layout)
Etc..

Im not sure how to set up multiple featured content on the home page. Ive seen many themes that only have 1 featured content section but Id need multiple.

Oh.. I should have clarified the 8 posts for each section would only be an image that once clicked takes the user to that post.

Ideally it would be nice to check a box on the back end and have that post be added to the featured content section of my choice (action, adventure, etc..) but I have no idea where to start and am amazed I made it this far.

Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated!
