multiple methods to earn badge

  • Hi Michael,
    I hope you’re fine, thank you for your work on this support forum I guess everyone appreciates it!

    I’d need to use several methods to unlock a badge: for example let’s say I’d need my users to validate this badge either by following a referring link or being nominated or entering an activity code. It is possible to use nomination aside another method yet so I guess using multiple methods is possible indeed.

    I understand achieving this would need some custom work but could you help me get where to start (even if it has to be hardcoded into the plugin’s files)? Currently we have a select to chose which method we want to award the achievement through. Could this select be turned into checkboxes for example? would this be enough to give access to every methods and configure them?

    So essentially instead of having 1 set path for any given achievement, you want to offer two or more possible paths for any given achievement?

    I have to believe that’d maybe take some reworking of the rules engine involved, at least on some level. I could be wrong though. If my usecase above is accurate, I’m not sure how I’d go about achieving it.

    Hey Michael, thank you for your quick answer,

    you got it right: I do need to be able to reward a same badge through multiple possible paths for each badge. I guess there are two things to consider here: first we have the “earned by:” select which defines a method to unlock the badge being set, then we have the completing steps option, which has its own configuration and sends us back to the rules engine.

    My first thoughts were just about the “earned by:” select but I guess having multiple possibilities regarding the completing steps process would be interesting also.

    How about a duplication of the metaboxes to set multiple paths?
    Did you ever see this kind of usecase?

    I never did personally, but I wasn’t part of the original development either. It’s possible that it was done this way by design and intent as well.

    Thinking out how to accomplish this type of setup at the programming level is also likely notably more complex as well, despite sounding pretty straightforward on the surface.
