I want to have different navigation menus on different header templates, but every time I try to edit a navigation menu in one template, it changes it in all of my templates.

How can I create unique navigation menus for different templates?

    Hi @pabirds

It’s definitely possible to do something like that ?? What you’ll likely need to do is have a different ‘Header’ template part for each Template – in which you can insert a different navigation block.

By default all templates will be using the same Header – which is why you see changes you make to the navigation reflected on all pages.

But if you create a new Header Template part (or duplicate an existing one) and assign it to a template – you’d be able to edit it separately, and replace the navigation block with a different, new, one.

That was one of the first things I tried (creating separate headers parts). It did not work. Any changes to one header navigation menu changed it in all headers.

I also tried saving the Navigation Menu as a reusable pattern, but again, as soon as I tried creating another Navigation menu, it changed the saved one!

    Any other suggestions?

    Hey @pabirds

It sounds as though you still had the same Navigation menu in both of the separate header parts in this case. So when you updated the menu in one – it still updated it in the other.

I also tried saving the Navigation Menu as a reusable pattern, but again, as soon as I tried creating another Navigation menu, it changed the saved one!

This was definitely worth trying – but it would be similar to the template parts. It would also be the case where the navigation block itself is still shared between them.

What you’ll need to do in the new template part is to create a new menu. You’d be able to do that following these instructions:

In the site editor, you can duplicate the navigation block, rename it, and then edit the new version. But I don’t know how to add the new navigation to a header pattern.
