multiple problems

This is an old theme and it uses an old technique for style sheets that makes the “modern” method of making child themes impossible without significant (un-documented) work arounds. Only a plea on the twenty-eleven forum revealed that.

This theme also uses the “featured image” in a non-standard way. (standard as defined by all the on-line documentation of this feature I could find.)

Instead of putting the featured image above each post as a “hero image” – it puts the image in the header as the header image. I’m told some other themes do this as well – and there are cases where this might be preferred. But it’s non-standard according to the guidance I’ve seen available to users.

Lastly – none of this is documented. In fact the entry in the CODEX for this theme is very brief and ends in: “under construction” – which seems quite odd considering this theme is quite old and has over 20 entries in it’s change-log.
