Multiple product images

I’m talking about multiple images for a ‘simple product’, not a “Variable Product”.

Not optimal, but a workaround:
set to a “Variable Product” with a “View” attribute – Front, Back, Side… with a different image for each…

It seems you’ve already found the answer to your question.

This feature, the Product Gallery helps you add additional product images in the ‘Product Gallery’ box on the individual product editing screen. Simply click on ‘Add product gallery images’ and select all the images you want to display for that particular product.
