Multiple Sitemaps – Why Does It Have Them?

    I see this showing up in my Ahrefs audits:
    /sitemap.xml
    /sitemap_index.xml

    Why does this plugin generate both?

    Hi again! I hope you’re doing well.

    I should make a dedicated KB article about this — we get this question about 5 times a year. This is what it would say:

    Briefly: We added the /sitemap_index.xml endpoint to support misconfigured hosts that cater to Yoast SEO. If you can access /sitemap.xml, your website is configured correctly in this regard, and you can ignore the sitemap_index one.
