Multiple sites

  • I am a new to blogging. I just downloaded and successfully installed a localhost on my PC. My first question is: can I mave more that one site on this installation or do I have to download WP to have another site? If having more than one site on a WP installation, Can someone tell me how or tell me where I can get some understandable info. I am new and dumb at this point!!!

  • you can only have one site per installation. If you want more than one site you have to set others up in different folders. They can all share the same database if you prefer, by setting different table prefixes in the wp-config.php file on the different installations, pointing them all to the same database. WP will set up multiple sets of tables, one per installation, in the same database.

    How to install multiple WordPress blogs with one database

    So you’ve decided you want to install a WordPress blog but don’t have any MySQL databases available in your account. Maybe you only have 1 database and it’s already being used, or maybe you have 50 and they’re all being used. Either way you’re going to have to find a way to install WordPress so that it uses a database that already exists and contains tables.

    Fortunately the WordPress authors have made this fairly easy. During installation you’ll have the option to select a table prefix. The default is ‘wp’ but it can be anything. By using a unique table prefix for your blog you can stuff your WordPress data into a database that already has data or you can use one database for multiple WordPress blogs.
