• So i am a bit stuck on a point while developing my blog. I want to show a placeholder to my visitors, like our site will be available in 10 days and some countdown stuff.

But on the other hand, i want to be able to edit my blog (theme, widgets etc) and see it on action while visitors see that placeholder thing.

I checked for theme switchers but none worked for wp 3.1.3 so far. So does anyone have an idea?

  • Try the Maintenance Mode plug-in. It’ll show a “coming soon” page that you can customize, but anyone who is logged in on the admin side can see and work with the site as usual.

I’m not sure if it’s compatible with 3.1 but you can try. If you get locked out of your site, just rename its folder in the plugins directory.

thanks for your help. But unfortunately i want to use a specific theme for placeholder page and i cant do that with that maintenance mod plugin

Well, you can code up the maintenance page however you want, including CSS. So you can in fact theme the temporary page it however you like – it just takes a bit of cut and paste.
