Multiple Themes with Same Blog Content WordPress or MU

  • Hello All

    I have setup a blog with WordPress 2.2 and love the way the software works.

    What I am looking to do is to setup blogs in multiples suddirectories. If I was looking to jabe this be setup by the user, it looks like WordPress MU will do the trick. It doesnt look like you can share content across multiple blogs with MU..is this possible?

    However, I will be setting up the blogs and the subdomains. I see that it is possible to have multiple subdomains share on database by changing the prefix in the wp config file.

    My question is, will the four subdomains share the same content or just the database with the different prefixes ?

  • Each set of tables represents a separate WP install, so no, the content will not be shared.

    You can have multiple authors on one blog which might be what you were thinking about when you asked about shared content.

    WPMU has very strict hosting environment requirements and a lot of web hosts don’t allow some of what it requires; be sure to check with your web host before attempting to install WPMU.

    Thanks for the quick reply and information.

    I would prefer to not use MU as this seems to be a way to have users launch lots of blogs and dont think I need all of that power to accomplish what I am trying to do.

    Maybe I should explain what I’m tying to accomplish

    I want to setup 4 separate blogs for 4 separate interest groups. ( group1.blogname.com, group2.blogname.com…etc) They want separate themes, so from what I read you need separate sites.

    I know I can change the prefix for each and at least only have to back up one database, as all of the tables for all of the blogs will be in there.

    Now, lets say someone writes a post that I as the editor should appear on each of the three blogs( group 1, 2, 3) Is there something out there that will allow me to post this entry simutaneously to these three.

    I saw something at one point about using e mail post and then when it doesnt delete the post, post it again.

    Any help will be appreciated

    Is is possible to write an addin that allows you to take one post and publicize it on multiple blogs in the same database?

    Same database? Not sure that’s germane?

    But yes, you can do definitely publicize (aka copy) posts from one blog to others by basically using the RSS feed from the source blog. The search term you want is “syndication plugin”. FeedWordPress is a popular one, but there are many others.
