• First of all, I’m pretty excited about wordpress. I haven’t installed it just yet, but I’m going to give it a try very soon :).
That said, will you be able to run multiple weblogs off of the same wordpress install, as movable type has? I’m not sure if it’s already been integrated, but I’d like to see it in a future release if it hasn’t yet been implemented. ??

  • This is a feature we’d like to incorporate, but most likely not for a release or two.

    That’s cool by me :).

How about enabling WordPress to display multiple blogs on the same page? In other words, able to have more than one “blog loop” to display entries from different catagories but are still administered under the same system.

I think that would be the feature that would make me move from b2. I may be missng something, but I can’t see anything that b2 can’t be made to do (the links hack is hardly difficult to implement). Or am I being stupid here?

I think the lure of WordPress will be the addition of the ‘hacks’. Most bloggers wouldn’t be comfortable with the d-i-y process of adding the extra functionality hacks provide, especially when other blogging software offers it out-of-the-box. If WordPress can add the features bloggers crave, then I’m all for it!

Ditto on the suggestion. Actually, probably using one db per weblog has its advantages, but it would also be good to have the option to do multiple weblogs. Trying it tonight!

    Want multiple blogs? Try b2evolution @ https://b2evolution.net
It has nearly everything that wordpress will have some time in the future now.

Yes, we are not going the category hack path, there will be true multiple blogs, like pMachine or MT.

b2evolution’s multiple blogs are real, just “like pMachine or MT”.
maybe you’re confused because you can cross-post accross multiple blogs and thus choose categories from multiple blogs.

what is the advantage/difference between running a blog with multiple blogs or a blog with multiple categories?

I think the problem is organising the information. Multiple Blogs (each with their own look) is nothing else than information architecture. You might have a lot of content that you want to sort, so you might want 7 main categories with each 4 subcats, instead of 28 loose categories. And wether you show it in one or in multiple blogs is in fact irrelevant.
I think Drupal.org is working in that direction.

I think that the catagories with subcatagories would be beneficial compared to creating multiple blogs and separating content in that fashion. But, if you wanted to provide other authors the ability to blog their own “section” that could get pulled in an overall “main” blog, then the multiple blog option makes sense.

Problem is, “multiple blogs” usually implies completely seperate security policies for each blog so no, it is not merely different abstration views on the same “categorized” content. WordPress should move towards a MT like multi-blog environment where users can be shared across blogs but not posts.
B2Evolution’s multiple blogs system works very well, though I’m personally not a fan of the “stub file” and evoSkins concept. Multi-blog information belongs in the database and I’d like to see skinning improvements move towards Smarty (which is already very easy to implement currently, and has minimal performance hit since all of the work is done by the processor and not harddrive)

    Hi all,
Any updated news about multiple weblogs feature in WordPress?
    Thanks!

Yup… just asking about whether there are any updated news on this. ??
