• We are trying to set up our site in the following manner:

main front end site – wordpress install 1

buddypress section – wordpress install 2 – on a sub domain

bbpress section – wordpress install 3 – on a sub domain

Is it possible to set this up and have members who sign up at one part be signed up / logged in at the other parts?

If so please how? If not would there be an alternative method we could consider?

Our reason for splitting it up like this in case anyone wonders is due to plugins being used on the front end, and the theme being used on the front end which would break if we where to compile them all onto the main 1 install.

Thanks for looking and any advice you can give.

  • jamcom if you really want to have 3 separate WP installs and have same userbase then read this
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_Multiple_Blogs#Multiple_Databases.2C_Same_Users
I don’t know if this configuration has been tested with BuddyPress and an external stand-alone bbPress install in separate physical subdomains.

A better alternative would be to Create a Network (go multisite) then install BuddyPress in secondary blog with internal bbPress forums set up. This must be in subdirectory structure because of bug in creating user blogs when the install is multisite subdomain https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/1796

On another note, you might want to wait till the ticket above is resolved and when the new bbPress plugin is released before you begin your project.
