    Hey there,

I’ve done a completely fresh install of WordPress and have enabled multi-site on moonshinemedia.cc. I’ve edited the .htacces file and t he wp-config.php file like the misc tutorials have instructed. I haven’t messed with the domain mapping since I can’t get the “un-mapped” domains to work. I am pretty sure that I’ve created the *.moonshinemedia.cc A record like I should. I’m at a complete loss on what I should do next to fix the 404 errors I’m receiving.

There are 3 additional “sites” created. The below links came directly from the installation email that was sent.

    https://catalystchurch.moonshinemedia.cc/wp-login.php

    https://pastormarcos.moonshinemedia.cc/wp-login.php

    https://soap-n-suds.moonshinemedia.cc/wp-login.php

None of the above work. I feel “kinda” certain that it’s a redirect issue or something like that, and not from the wp install. ???

    moonshinemedia.cc/wp-admin works completely fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!!

    Take it a step back.

    Look at this: https://soap-n-suds.moonshinemedia.cc/

See how it’s got cgi-bin? That tells me you set up your wildcard subdomains incorrectly. They need to point one level up. Right now you have it pointing at /public_html/soap-n-subs/ and it shoudl point right at /public_html/

    OK… I’ve got it!

A little sleep, cup o’ coffee, a fresh perspective and Ipstenu’s help… Yes! THANK YOU!!

Background info for others facing this issue. I installed WordPress Multisite where there were formally individual WordPress installs. (This means that there were already subdomains pointing to the appropriate subdirectory for a correct individual install.) After following all the tutorials out there, I was sure that my install was correct…and it was.

The one thing that I kept missing, even though the wildcard A record was in place…. There were existing subdomains that pointed to the subdirectory that needed to be changed. The wildcard couldn’t do it’s job because of the more specific subdomain pointing … A simple fix, but one that alluded me. Simply pointing them back to the public_html or root folder… fixed it all!

    Thanks Ipstenu!
