Multisite and IIS

  • We run our own IIS 7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2. We have quite a few WordPress and non-WordPress websites running. Of the WordPress websites, four of them are Multisite setups.

    Last week only the Multisite WP’s when down. We cannot determine what has changed, no automatic updates in Windows or anything. We couldn’t find any details in any of the logs, and ended up moving them to our local development server which runs a different version of PHP. They worked. So on a long shot we upgraded PHP on our production server and moved the sites back.

    Everything was great until today, when the multisites went down again. I logged in and switched the PHP version back and forth, and restarted IIS and the individual websites a few times. Everything seems to be back up and running, but again, what happened?

    I have been Googling and Googling and to no avail. Anyone?
