• This is my first time setting up SSL and domain mapping, so please be very explicit.

I currently have Multisite installed at domain1.com – yes it is in the root directory.

There are other sub-sites, but the only site I currently wish to have mapped is at domain1.com/h2h/ – note that it is just a few touches from being ready to launch, so it does have quite a bit of content.

I want domain1.com/h2h/ to always show up in the URL as domain2.com – I presently have domain2.com in my server as an Add-on domain that redirects to domain1.com/h2h/ but obviously this reverts right back to domain1.com/h2h/

I also need it to have SSL on certain pages (I’m in the process of getting that cert as we speak). I’m considering Easy HTTPS Redirection for this, but if there’s a mapping plugin that does HTTPS also I would be happier – less concern about compatibility. If I do go with EHR then I’m not worried about setting it up – seems simple enough.

I’ve looked into a couple domain mapping plugins but all those have managed to do is confuse me thoroughly and worry about compatibility. I’m thinking it might be simpler to do it “manually” but I can’t find any documentation to that affect.

    So my questions are:
How do I map the domain?
Is there anything in my on-page links / media links etc that I would need to change after mapping to maintain domain2.com in the URL?

Odd – my SSL registrar required that I add a subdomain. So I’ve added shop.domain2.com and now I’m curious how to map everything from Easy Digital Downloads to shop.domain2.com, or if using the subdomain I’ve specified is even necessary.

Ugh. This is exactly what I was worried about.

I installed MU Domain Mapping and it didn’t work initially (got a “too many redirects” error) so I set it back to not mapping. Now all of my Preview links inside the dashboard redirect to the homepage.

    Can someone help please?

I want domain1.com/h2h/ to always show up in the URL as domain2.com

Okay so this is easy and hard.

Outside of WordPress add domain2.com to your hosting plan. Now… How? That’s a tricky question. Since you want SSL, I would say you want to add it as an ‘add on’ domain but that’s cPanel terms. What kind of panel does your host have?

(I talk about this in a bit more detail here: https://halfelf.org/2014/ssl-for-one-domain-on-multisite/ )

I presently have domain2.com in my server as an Add-on domain that redirects to domain1.com/h2h/ but obviously this reverts right back to domain1.com/h2h/

Change that to add on to domain1.com – NOT the h2h folder, just domain1.com.

The goal is to make it so domain2.com pulls up domain1.com’s content in the browser. Yes, I know this is wrong, but you have to start here ??

Once THAT works, you will use the domain mapping plugin and tell WordPress that domain2.com means domain1.com/h2h/

As soon as domain2.com is working sans HTTPS you can start with the plugins for https.

PS: I deleted your other post because you actually make it HARDER for anyone to help you when you do that. Support here is free and comes at it’s own pace. Please don’t make multiple topics. ??

Thanks and sorry – I realized after I posted that dupe that I should’ve put it in the plugin’s board.

I’ll give that a shot. Thanks so much for responding!

I’ll tackle the whole SSL thing tomorrow/next week. For now I feel like I’ve wasted a day on something silly and need to get some content done without distractions ??

I fully support that break ??
