• Hi,

I`m working on a multisite. Some Users are on one site, some users are on multiple sites.

The community role for the users on multiple sites is synced: When I change the community role for a user on site_a to “Editor”, the user on site_b becomes “Editor” to.

This is not what I want: There are users, which are an Editor on one Page and only an Author on the other page.
I tried activating Ultimate Member on the Network, and separately on each installation: It does not change anything.

What can I do to avoid that community role syncing?

    Thank you,

    Johannes

  • Why is this a UM question?

Because “community role” is an additional role added by the Ultimate Member Plugin.

Yes, but you are saying that you want separate user capabilities for each user role. Again I ask, why is this a UM question?

When Ultimate Member is installed, there is a new field for each user: “Community role”

These roles are special Ultimate Member roles, independent from WordPress roles, and have nothing to do with WordPress roles.

    An Example:

I create two Ultimate Member community roles:
    a) “Community Role A”
    b) “Community Role B”

Now a user on one site (site_a) has the following roles:
    – Community Role: Community Role A
    – (WordPress) Role: Editor

Now I add this user to another site in my multisite network and change the Roles on that site (site_b) to
    – Community Role: Community Role B
    – (WordPress) Role: Author

Than the community role for site_a changes to “Community Role B”. For the WordPress role, that does not happen: site_a role: Editor, site_b role: Author. That is, how it should be.

The reason why community role A changes to B is because you are accessing the same database and user roles meta are common to the entire network… That’s your answer.

But the wordpress role does not change. I can be Author on one site and Editor on another site…

I’ll say it now in layman’s terms; UM user roles are not WP user roles.
