Multisite n00b

  • Hi everyone,

    I have been using WordPress for a very long time now but have never before tried using the Multisite setup until now and I am starting to think I didn’t do everything right. My main website WP was already installed and then I added a second one.
    – domain 1 – matepece.com – it is the root domain of my cPanel and has to be in /public_HTML.
    – domain 2 – mpheavy.industries – it is a parked domain, also pointing to /public_HTML

    So, one website is matepece.com (main) and the second is mpheavy.industries. I had to set up the multisite with subdomains since the WP installation was not fresh.
    To access admin of both I just go to domain/wp-admin, and network admin is at matepece.com/wp-admin/network/

    The issue I am having now is other parked domains (not set up with WP) that previously all redirected to matepece.com now redirect to https://matepece.com/wp-signup.php?new=parked_domain_name.com

    Did I have to configure the network WP in another folder or is this setup acceptable? The redirect issue, is it a matter of tweaking the .htaccess or WordPress issue?

  • You have 3 options regarding the other domains:

    Either you add each domain that still points to the hosting as an alias domain of one of the domains in the network domain mapping.

    Or you already ensure in the hosting of the domains that they forward to the main domain when called up. This way, the requests from the domains do not even get through to WordPress.

    Or you add a general forwarding of all domains except the two multisite domains to the main domain of the multisite in the htaccess file. Even then, the request would not get through to the wordpress.

    Hi,

    thanks for your message. I managed to solve the issue rather easily – I had to move the redirect rules in .htaccess so they are before the WordPress code, because when you set up redirects within cPanel it adds them to the end of the .htaccess.
