    Hello.

How does this plugin work on a multisite network? if it does…
Is it network activated? Or activated site by site?

Also, does this plugin convert existing images or only images yet to be uploaded?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

  • @lala9 Thanks for getting in touch!

How does this plugin work on a multisite network? if it does…
Is it network activated? Or activated site by site?

Performance Lab can be network activated, but the specific settings (in Settings > Performance) are managed on a site-by-site basis.

Also, does this plugin convert existing images or only images yet to be uploaded?

At this time, the plugin converts JPEG images that you upload after plugin installation/activation, and does not convert existing JPEG images in your Media Library. That said, we anticipate adding functionality in the future that will allow you to generate WebP versions for all of your existing JPEGs.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

So, I added this plugin to my multisite network. Network activated. Made no changes.

I went to one of the network sites and uploaded a new .jpeg image in the hope it would be converted to a WebP image. But no conversion. Just got a .jpeg

If this is a server issue, I cant see it because my host says they do not block webP uploads.

    Kindly advise.
    Tks

@lala9 Thanks for the update. Can you please check in Tools > Site Health > Status and let me know if you see a recommended improvement that says “Your site does not support WebP” *or* “Your site supports WebP” under Passed Tests?

Thank you for your reply : Nothing showing any issues with WebP.

GD supported file formats : GIF, JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, XPM

Thanks @lala9! Just to confirm, did you check this information in your Site Health, as well? While your hosting provider may support WebP, there could be something going on with your particular site that causes it not to.

If all looks good in Site Health, it’s possible that WebP images are not being generated because of a conflict with your site’s theme and/or plugins. Can you please try the following troubleshooting steps and let me know what you find?

    1. Install the Health Check and Troubleshooting plugin
    2. Go to Plugins > Installed Plugins and select “Troubleshoot” below Performance Lab. A panel will appear at the top of the Plugins page showing that you are in Troubleshooting Mode. As described on the screen, deactivating plugins or themes while in Troubleshooting Mode has no effect on your site’s visitors. They will see what they normally would.
    3. Now that you’re in Troubleshooting Mode with only Performance Lab enabled, check to see if the problem that you’ve been experiencing is still occurring by uploading a JPEG image and seeing if it is appropriately converted to WebP.
    4. If images convert successfully to WebP while you’re in troubleshooting mode, it indicates that one of your site’s plugins is conflicting with Performance Lab. To identify which one, you can try turning your plugins back on one by one from the Troubleshooting Mode screen and testing JPEG upload > WebP conversion after you turn each one on.

Let me know if you have any questions on these troubleshooting steps. Thank you!
