• Hello friends,
Though I have been using wordpress for a long time I have not used Multisite. I was planning to add another wordpress website. So I was wondering if it’s better to convert the existing website into Multisite and add new website on the network, or simply install an entirely separate wordpress. Which one is more server friendly and does it have any bad impact on Google’s ranking to use multisite.

  • A multisite network can be very similar to your own personal version of WordPress.com.

Unless you actually *need* your own version of wordpress.com for some specific reason, having separate sites is much more user-friendly for you and I doubt the server or Google will care either way.

With server I meant if multi-site has lower resources usage than two separate installations, since a lot of files would be common esp plugins and themes.

Certainly a file count and the amount of space required would be lower, and I have thought about that for my own sites. However, I doubt there would be any noticeable difference in function on any decent server and I think file count or space would be my very last reason for ever taking on the extra work and higher skill levels (both at the server as well as with WordPress) required by multi-site.
