• I have this plugin installed on a multisite network using sites in subdirectories. Everything works fine until I change the value of Cookie Version on one site in the network. Individual sites can set their own value for Cookie Version, but the cookie is a domain-wide object so its value is set to the last site I accepted cookies on. So if site example.com/site_a has a value of 1 and example.com/site_b has a value of 2, after I visit site_a and accept cookies, the cookie value gets set to 1. On visiting site_b and accepting cookies it gets set to 2. Now if I go back to site_a the value doesn’t match so I get prompted again to accept cookies, even though I did only a few minutes ago.

Unless you can set a separate cookie per site, the only way round this I can see would be to remove the facility for site admins to change the cookie version and make that a network admin function. Any ideas?

Actually having a network-wide cookie is a non-starter anyway as different sub sites may use different cookies. So some way of making the cookie site-specific for multisite is I think the only way this could work properly in the multisite/subdirectory environment.

Right on point. The setting as it is right now is not very good on a multisite network.

@skirridsystems It makes sense for multisite wp used by clubs, organizations, etc that use a common policy.

@knluu But only if they are forced to use a common policy which is not possible at the moment. The admin for every sub-site can set their own policy and edit the cookie version, breaking it for everyone else.

And in any case, not all multi-site installations will want a common policy. Imagine a group of clubs. Some may want to use an events calendar to advertise what they’re doing, and that plugin may set cookies. Other clubs may just want a simple list of dates on their front page. The whole point of multi-site is that the sites are independent and you can choose plugins from what the network admin has made available.

    Has this issue been addressed?

Our multisite networks also need independent cookies per site due to different owners, different policies, etc.
