• Hi all…

I’ve followed this page on how to setup multisite: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Create_A_Network

I have a main install of wordpress with Multisite setup: first question: Do I need more than two wordpress installs? (I don’t think I do).

I have a sub-domain setup and want the second site to be here. However when I click on the url for the sub domain it only shows the main wordpress install.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Much appreciated.

    It’s hosted on 1and1 btw.

WordPress multisite is ONE installation of the WordPress core files, plugins and themes, which are all shared between all the sites in the network. So you are correct: you only need one WordPress install.

When you set up multisite for subdomains, you set up wildcard subdomains in your hosting, and then those subdomains are created from WITHIN the network, not in your cPanel. You will never actually see those subdomains in your hosting account.

I’m not sure if that answers your question about your subdomain site or not. Let me know if you still have a question about that.

Thanks Bet. The sub domain info is useful.

1and1 Hosting as far as I can tell don’t allow Wildcard DNS so I’ll need to find a way around this somehow.

    I may be back!
