• I am brand new to creating multisite networks on WordPress, but after going over the setup process step-by-step I believe that I have everything correct. At least, I am able to successfully create multiple subdomain sites. However, after installing and activating a theme for one of these sites I have been unable to upload any images. The following error occurs when I try to do so…

Upload Error: Unable to create directory /home/adminname/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/3/files/2011/08. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I’ve checked all of my directory permissions and they all appear to be set correctly, based on what I’ve read. And non of the other support topics that I’ve found seem to find the solution. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Me, too! Any help on this topic would be GREATLY appreciated.

I am also confused about what kind of entity blogs.dir is. Via FTP, this appears like a file (not a folder). Shouldn’t it be a folder? I keep reading about creating folders and files “under” blog.dir, but that doesn’t seem possible the way my blog.dir “file?” is set up.

Changing this to an actual folder worked for me. Not sure how I created this a file to begin with. Ah well … onward and upward!

blackbeardesign- It looks like S Smith was right. All it took was deleting the blogs.dir file and replacing it with a blogs.dir folder. Once that was done everything else seems to be working like a charm. Hope that helps.

wow that worked for me…all that work at just making it a folder. who knew! Well Thanks, it was driving me nuts!
