• I’ve set up multisite exactly the way it’s explained. I can create a new subdomain site but when I type it into my browser I get the error “Accessing the content by IP address is not allowed. Please type domain name instead.”

So what have I done wrong?

  • What’s the URL to your site? The error comes up when you install on an IP address and not on a full domain name, like it says.

I’m trying to get blog.mysite.com going but it won’t. My regular site works fine. It’s only the subdomain. How do I install on a domain instead of an IP address?

I created the subdomain in CPanel but now I get error 404 when I want to access the dashboard. Can anyone hlep me?

Did you point the subomain to public_html or to public_html/subdomain?

It doesn’t give me the option to point it anywhere in CPanel. Just create a new subdomain and thats it. Or do you mean I have to change something in wordpress?

in document roots though the subdomain blog.julienrath.com goes to wwww/blog whereas my actual site goes to www/www

Don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

Yes, it does matter. And yes, cpanel DOES let you point it places.

    https://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/view/AllDocumentation/CpanelDocs/SubDomains

    To create a subdomain:
    1. Enter the desired prefix in the Subdomain field.

    2. Select the desired main domain from the pull-down menu.

    3. Enter the home directory for the subdomain into the Document Root field.
This directory will be where files pertaining to the subdomain will be placed.

    4. Click Create.

Step 3 is where it says www/blog and YOU change it just to www ??

thanks a lot. I’ve been going through the documentation of my site and they won’t let me change the documentroot to an upper folder so I’ve emailed their support saying I need it to be changed. I’ll see what they say.

Ugh. What host is this? That’s a Cpanel standard setting!

Sureserver. I thought it was CPanel because it said ControlPanel and I thought they were both the same thing. My bad though. But they did just answer and I can’t use subdomain multisite. I have to use subdirectory only. So now I have to change the whole thing around ^$%67&$$%! arrrrr
