Multisite Subdomain and 1and1

  • Has anyone had any success using Multisite Subdomain’s with the 1and1 hosting service, I don’t want to risk damaging my site so I want to know if anyone has done it before I risk any extended downtime?

    Why not ask 1and1 if they support subdomains? IIRC they don’t support wildcard on shared, but past that you have to ask them. We’re not experts on every webhost out there ??

    1and1 do support subdomains, but the support staff had a bit of trouble understanding my query I think, I think they thought I was asking about installing WordPress on a subdomain created in the 1and1 control panel, not in WordPress itself, and no-one else seems to know whether 1and1 support externally created subdomains, like those made by WordPress’ multisite feature.

    The only thing we don’t currently support is wildcard DNS but if you would run a Multisite with subdomains then you can still do that. The only problem is the fact that you need to point every single subdomain to the main domain. Unsure if it’s on our roadmap to support wildcard DNS.
