I’m not sure I understand, but let me try:

mylocalnews.us is your main domain for the network, right?

You followed these instructions to set up your multisite network:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Create_A_Network

For the redirect loop, you might find this helpful:
    https://tommcfarlin.com/resolving-the-wordpress-multisite-redirect-loop/

If you want to make a subsite inside the network, you won’t copy/migrate any files/directories via FTP. You will create the new site in the Network Admin dashboard, and you can import the site content & settings:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Migrating_Multiple_Blogs_into_WordPress_3.0_Multisite

Although it is not officially supported, I have also used BackupBuddy to migrate single sites into multisite.

First off, I would not create a multisite network just to make a staging site. Multisite networks require a lot more care and feeding and skills to manage – I would simply create a cloned single site for staging.

But if you already have a network up and going, there are several plugins that will clone an existing site. Here’s one of them, but you can search for others:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/multisite-clone-duplicator/

    Hai Bet Hannon,
how to create a cloned single site for staging. you mean a fresh wordpress installation in staging right. after wordpress installation in that we need to install https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/multisite-clone-duplicator/ this plunin and cloneing process is done in the new installation right

    (@bethannon1)

The Multisite Clone Duplicator will only work if you have a functioning multisite network. It will help you duplicate a current site, as a subsite in the network, which you could then use for testing/staging. As a subsite in the network, the duplicated site will share the WordPress files, plugins and themes.

If you do NOT have a multisite network, then you will want to create a separate WordPress installation that has separate files plugins and themes that are copies of the original.

    Does that answer your question?

    Hi,

Can you explain me clearly please,

The thing we have website(Multi sites admin panel) named https://mylocalnews.us

Now what I need is, at present this a live website. So I dont want to do any modifications on this website. I wanna create a new website for testing and modifications before they are reflected on the live website. And the URL for the new website is https://www.mylocalnews.us/mylocalnews.us/ncpl/

Already my friend Rajesh installed all the files and database using FTP and SQL respectively, but you said that it was not the correct way to do for multiple websites. So want a copy of entire website with multisites.
Please explain me the process to do.

You asked to add plugin NS Cloner Site Copier(Can you explain me what this plugin do). But there was no option for me to add new plugin in the admin dashboard.

    My questions are,

    1. What is the entire process to show the same multisite website in sub-domain or new domain.

    2. How can I add a new plugin in the wp-admin dashboard?

Please help me out in this.

    Thank You
    Krishna Kanth HVS.

In multisite, to add new plugins, you have to go to Network Admin first. Hover over “My Sites” in the admin toolbar see this option.

If https://mylocalnews.us is a multisite, then navigate to Network Admin dashboard, and if you have the MultiSite Clone Duplicator plugin activated, go to Sites – Duplicate.

On that page, you will choose the site you want to duplicate – so it sounds like this will be your main site – and you will give this new subsite a site address. Perhaps something like: staging.mylocalnews.us. Or, if you set this up as a subdirectory type network, mylocalnews.us/staging.

Adding the staging site does not require any file duplication or migration, or any SQL database manipulation. In fact, you may need to take care that you are not trying to inadvertently re-create something that your friend has inadvertently set up for you.

Thank you so much for the reply.

I dont wanna duplicate a single site. I just want to duplicate complete mylocalnews.us and the sub domains inside this network.

That means we need to deploy the entire multisite network into test server. Can I do this using NS Clone plugin.

    (@bethannon1)

OH! Creating a staging of the entire network! That’s totally different.

You might be able to make this work from a subdomain folder. Here is an article I found– about half-way down, there are some instructions for setting up multisite in a sub-root folder.
    https://foliovision.com/2015/01/wpmu-in-subdirectory

It sounds like you already know that you need to copy files & create a copy of the database…

Ya we copied files and database using FTP and MySQL(is this the correct process)?

I will check with the link you provided and get back to you. But please let me know the process of copying files and DB is correct?

    Moderator Bet Hannon

    (@bethannon1)

You would follow the process for migrating any WordPress site.

It is correct to copy over all the files, but you will need to change all of the URLs in the database to the new URL’s for the staging site. For instance, from https://mylocalnews.us, to https://staging.mylocalnews.us.

BUT, you can’t just do a simple search-and-replace in the database, because WordPress includes serialized data. That is, some of the URLs in your database have a count of how many characters they include as a part of the data, so changing the URLs means those numbers have to change to. You can do that by using a tool like this:
    https://pixelentity.com/wordpress-search-replace-domain/

Thank you Bet, I got a problem.

Now I am unable to open site with staging URL,
https://mylocalnews.us/mylocalnews.us/ncpl/ but when I am trying to access admin dashboard for staging website it was redirecting to mylocalnews.us/wp-admin.php

    What is the solution?

    Moderator Bet Hannon

    (@bethannon1)

I don’t think it’s going to work trying to put a subdirectory network with another subdirectory.

Try creating a SUBDOMAIN first (like staging.mylocalnews.us). This will create a directory for you, and install your clone there. This will enable you to access your subsites like this: https://staging.mylocalnews.us/ncpl.

Ya I am already having a staging.mylocalnews.us and when I click on this it was re-directing to https://mylocalnews.us/?new=staging and when I click on any sub domain URL it was redirecting to mylocalnews.us/ahwatukee. That is the problem I am getting.
